Course Details

Stained Glass Appliqué                                                                             Wednesday 1st June 10am-4pm  £50
Make a beautiful jewel-like picture in fabric.  Learn tips and techniques for success and choose from a range of Thistle Threads designs to make on the day. All materials provided. Hand technique.

Creative Hand Quilting                                                                                Saturday 4th June 10am-4pm  £50
Enjoy a day learning simple traditional and contempory techniques for hand quilting. Learn how to transfer designs to stitch and produce beautiful textured pieces for quilts, wall hangings, garments or soft furnishings.  A fun relaxing and creative class, including traditional hand quilting, big stitch quilting, Italian corded quilting and trapunto quilting. All materials provided, or bring your own fabric-full advice given on booking.

Quilt in a day-Going crazy with Stack and Slash.                                      Saturday 11th June 10am-4pm  £45
Machine technique suitable for all abilities. Fast and fabulous results.
Make a quilt top in a day or choose a small quilt to make and finish it in the day!
Choose from a range of simple projects. Material requirements list sent on booking.
Sewing machine required-machines can be hired by prior arrangement.

Quilt in a day-Speedy Card Trick quilt                                                      Saturday 9th July 10am-4pm            £45
Learn this great technique for speedy card trick blocks and make a quilt top, blocks for a bag or cushions or table runner in a day. Smaller projects can be completed in a day. A larger quilt top may be finished –depending how large you choose to go-but anyway you will make a lot of progress with this speedy technique.
Machine technique suitable for those with some rotary cutting experience-if you have no experience this is a good time to learn! but your progress will be a little slower-but very rewarding.

Quilt in a day–Curved strip piecing                                                            Saturday 16th July 10am-4pm  £45
Try this technique for speedy curved strip piecing and piece a quilt top in a day!
Machine technique.Suitable for sewers with some machine experience.
Very effective results and lots of fun. Materials list sent on booking .
Sewing machine required-Machines can be hired by prior arrangement.

Creative Fabric Dyeing                                                                    Wednesday 20th July 10am-4.30pm  £100
Enjoy a creative colourful day dyeing cotton fabric and threads for your patchwork or embroidery projects. Working together we will dye ranges of colours, and with special effects for added impact you will have lots of lovely samples to take home. Unleash your creativity! All dyes, materials and equipment provided. Please wear suitable clothes and bring an apron and rubber gloves. You will have up to 3 metres of fabric to take home plus beautifully dyed threads.

Creative Machine Embroidery- 1                                                                Saturday  23rd July 10am-4pm £50

Enjoy a day playing creatively with your sewing machine. See just what the simplest machine can achieve-with the feed dogs down you have freedom-take courage and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. Working through some exercises to build skills and confidence we will then make a small panel which can be framed, made into a small bag or cushion or incorporated in a larger embroidery. Lots of helpful tips and techniques. Many materials provided. You will need your sewing machine in good working order with all its bits including the instruction book plus a darning or embroidery foot  and a selection of needles. Introduction to Machine Quilting.                                                               Monday 25th July 10am-4 pm £50

Learn this most satisfying technique to enhance your quilts.Develop and practice good habits to keep you on the straight and narrow! Lots of helpful advice and guidance for success. Individual attention to help you with a range of machine quilting techniques. Sewing machine required in good working order with attachments and instruction book. Some materials include . Creative Cushion Covers.                                                                            Wednesday 27th July 10am-4pm £50

Learn how to construct a variety of cushion styles with great results. Starting plain and simple and progressing to cover buttons, zips, piping – plus ideas for embellishing and personalizing your cushions. A fun creative day. Requirements list sent on booking.

Patchwork Pictures.                                                                                    Friday 29th July  2pm-4.30pm  £25
Half day workshop sewing simple foundation pieced patchwork pictures inspired by the Trossachs landscape. Pictures can later be framed or incorporated in cushions or quilts.
All materials for the patchwork pictures supplied.  Hand sewn project suitable for all abilities.

Rag Rugs                        Monday 22nd August   10am-4pm    Relaxed, fun, creative day suitable for all. £50
Lots of colourful inspiration. Try out hooking and prodding to start a rug or make a picture , cushion panel or frame or embellish a handy shopper. Work on a small project to finish on the day or start a larger project to continue at home. All materials provided for smaller projects and to start a larger one. Additional materials and equipment available to buy on the day.

 

DoorStops & Draught Excluders                                                    Wednesday 24th August 10am-4pm  £50

Keep warm and toasty with a decorative draught excluder-and optional matching fabric doorstop! Simple yet delightful-lovely for your own home or to give as gifts. Choice of designs suitable for all skill levels. Choice of materials available –or bring your own .New designs available for 2011.

Creative Machine Embroidery -2                                                    Saturday 3rd September 10am-4pm £50
Experiment with Machine embroidery on soluble fabric for fabulous effects. Learn to make embellishments/trims  for garments, to enhance  your embroidery with  texture ,  to make 3D objeccts or even combine with papermaking  for fabulous artistic effect.A busy creative machine embroidery workshop for those with some experience.Requirements list sent on booking.
Tassel making workshop                                                                    Friday 16th September 10am-4pm  £50
Learn simple ways to make and embellish soft topped tassels for lovely decorative effects. Learn to make simple cords to finish and embellish your tassels.
Incorporate ‘found’ objects in your tassels for a distinctive look.
Lots of creative fun and some lovely tassels to take home.
All materials provided although you are welcome to bring along your own for particular colour coordination.

Papermaking                                                                                     Saturday 24th September 10am-4pm £50
A most ancient yet contemporary craft.  Learn to make your own special handmade paper from different raw materials.  Experiment and have fun. Easy and satisfying.  Lovely for card making, embroidery, artwork and much more.All materials and equipment provided.

Introduction to Feltmaking.                                                                Saturday 22nd October 10am-4pm £50
Have a go at this creative and enjoyable craft. Learn about wool and how to make a flat piece of colourful felt with a variety of decorative techniques. Try your hand at felt balls and rolls for accessories. All materials included.

Christmas Workshop                                                                        Saturday 12th November 10am-4pm £50
Enjoy the festive season with creativity! Make something special for your home at Christmas or give to someone special as a gift!

All workshops include delicious home baking and tea/coffee throughout and home made soup and bread for lunch.

If your choice of workshop is not on a convenient day/date please let us know and we may be able to arrange another date.  For groups of 4 or more a date can be arranged to suit.
